Tullow makes second oil find in Kenya

LONDON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- British energy explorer Tullow Oil said Monday it was optimistic about its plans in Kenya after making its second onshore oil discovery there.

Tullow announced it encountered about 100 feet of net oil pay at its Twiga South-1 exploration well in Block 13T of the Lokichar basin.

"I am pleased to announce that our second well in our onshore Kenya rift basins campaign has also discovered oil," Tullow Exploration Director Angus McCoss said in a statement. "This immediate follow on discovery reaffirms the considerable prospectivity of the Lokichar basin."

Tullow announced in March its Ngamia-1 prospect in Nigeria encountered a substantial oil layer. The company said Monday it encountered even more oil deeper in the Twiga South-1 well in a tight fractured-rock section that it said would require further observation.

"Having significantly expanded our plans in Kenya and Ethiopia, there is much to look forward to as the exploration campaign and testing program move ahead," said McCoss.
