HAMBURG, Germany, April 27 (UPI) -- At least 140 billion cubic feet of natural gas is expected from a discovery in the Norwegian Sea, stated German energy company RWE Dea Norge.

The company announced it finished drilling a well in production license area 435 in the Norwegian Sea on the Zidane 2 prospect. Preliminary estimates of the discovery range from 140 billion-450 billion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas.

Ralf to Baben, chief operating officer of RWE Dea, said the company had high expectations from the Norwegian field.

"This is good news indeed," he said of the latest discovery.

The well was drilled to a depth of 14,875 feet below the sea surface in water depths of 1,300 feet.

The company said it would assess the results of the well before moving with field development plans.

By developing Zidane, we will get our first own-operated Norwegian field on stream, and we have high ambitions in both exploration and production for the years to come," said to Baben.
