WASHINGTON, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- The White House is stonewalling an investigation into the bankruptcy of solar panel company Solyndra, recipient of a $535 million federal loan, a lawmaker said.
Solyndra declared bankruptcy last year despite a $535 million loan from the government. Critics say some of the details surrounding the loan raise legal questions.
U.S. Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the House energy committee, said the White House answered a November subpoena for documents with several hundred pages of material. Upton said the White House refused to hand over some material, however.
"Handing over five or six pages a day is not an acceptable level of compliance in a situation where taxpayers are out over half a billion dollars," he said in a statement. "It is astonishing that an administration that held itself up to be the most open and transparent in history continues to stonewall, refusing any accountability."
More than 1,000 pages of Solyndra documents have been released.
"We have been reasonable and deliberate every step of the way in this investigation but the public is growing restless with the administration's continued stonewall," Upton said. "If the White House has nothing to hide, they should just hand over the documents."
