White House giving in on Solyndra?

WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Republican lawmakers said they were "hopeful" the White House would demonstrate good faith in releasing documents related to the Solyndra bankruptcy.

U.S. Reps. Fred Upton, R-Mich., chairman of the House energy and commerce committee, and Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., chairman of an investigative subcommittee, said the White House was "sadly" holding back documents related to the Solyndra loan.

Last week, they issued a subpoena to the White House to get more documents related to a $535 million loan guarantee the company received before it filed for bankruptcy.

Both House leaders said White House lawyers informed them that they were working on responding to the subpoena.

Upton and Stearns, in a statement, said they were ready to work with the White House to get the necessary documents.

"We remain hopeful that the White House will demonstrate some good faith efforts of compliance and provide the internal Solyndra-related communications we have been seeking," they said.

Critics say some of the details surrounding the loan raise certain legal questions.

The White House said aggressive policies are needed as European and Asian countries quickly outpace the United States in the clean-energy race. More than 900 pages of Solyndra documents have been released.
