MOSCOW, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- A delegation from South Korea arrived Tuesday in Moscow to discuss a potential increase in natural gas deliveries, Russian gas company Gazprom said.
Gazprom and South Korean gas company Kogas in 2009 signed an agreement to explore the development of the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas transmission system to Korea.
There are an estimated 2.25 billion barrels of oil and 1.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas locked in the Sakhalin region.
Alexei Miller, the top executive at Gazprom, welcomed Kogas Chairman Lee Youn-ho to his offices in Moscow.
"The parties reviewed interaction in the energy sector placing an emphasis on a potential increase in liquefied natural gas volumes supplied by Gazprom to Korea," the Russian gas company said in a statement.
South Korea received more than 2.6 million tons of LNG from Russian developments on Sakhalin Island during the past year, Gazprom added.
