France, Poland to deepen energy ties

WARSAW, Poland, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A Polish-French agreement, which will cover a number of fields, including energy, is expected shortly to include Germany in the so-called "Weimar Triangle."

During President Bronislaw Komorowski's visit to Paris after meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy he said, "We have agreed to revive the Weimar Triangle. First, there will be a Polish-French summit, which will be followed by a summit of the entire triangle," Rzeczpospolita reported Friday.

Komorowski said, "Our cooperation could concern many areas, such as the stability of financial markets, energy issues or agriculture."

Sarkozy accepted an invitation to a Weimar Triangle summit in Poland tentatively scheduled before the year's end.

The Weimar Triangle was informally established in 1998 established to secure French and German assistance in Poland's efforts to join NATO and the European Union. Following Poland's accession to both NATO and the EU fell moribund rather than developing a new vision for continued cooperation. The three countries' leaders last met in 2006.
