HOUSTON, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Global engineering company KBR announced it won two contracts from the Iraqi Oil Ministry to start work at an oil refinery in the south of the country.
KBR said it won the contract to provide basic engineering services for the construction of fluid catalytic cracking and solvent deasphalting units at the Maysan refinery in southern Iraq.
A fluid catalytic cracking unit helps make gasoline while the deasphalting unit removes unrefined residual oil.
The engineering company, which has headquarters in Houston, said in a statement that work on the two projects would begin immediately.
"These awards mark the first wins for KBR's Technology Business in Iraq and provide KBR the opportunity to introduce two of its leading refining technologies into an important, emerging market," added Tim Challand, president of KBR Technology.
The company didn't indicate the value of the contract.
