VIENNA, July 30 (UPI) -- The government of Brazil has expressed its commitment to bolster agribusiness and renewable energy through a U.N. partnership, UNIDO said.

Kandeh Yumkella, the director general of the U.N. Industrial Development Organization, met with Brazilian representatives at UNIDO headquarters in Vienna.

Yumkella said a renewed financial commitment from Brazil was symbolic of its support for his organization.

"I believe this signals a new phase in the cooperation between UNIDO and Brazil, which is actively seeking to share its successful experience with the world and relies on UNIDO to help in that process," he said in a statement.

Brazil committed itself to cooperating with UNIDO in the agricultural sector and renewable energy with other developing countries under a UNIDO framework for the region.

Yumkella said his organization was working to develop a wide range of cooperative measures in the green energy sector in Latin America.

The organization said it was working on laying the foundations for a Latin American observatory for renewable energy, including a headquarters in Brazil.
