MOSCOW, July 15 (UPI) -- Russian energy companies are willing to cut deals and sell fuel to Iran despite pressure from economic sanctions, the Russian energy minister said in Moscow.
Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko welcomed his Iranian counterpart Masoud Mir Kazemi to Moscow to lay out a road map for energy cooperation in the wake of U.S., European and U.N. sanctions on Iran.
The United Nations in June put new pressure on Iranian assets while U.S. and European sanctions targeted the Iranian energy sector unilaterally.
The Iranian official said following his meeting with Shmatko that Russian energy companies were "ready to supply fuel to Iran" despite the economic sanctions, the Iranian Oil Ministry's Petroenergy Information Network quoted the minister as saying.
Both sides signed "several" energy agreements during their Wednesday meetings in Moscow, U.S. state news agency Voice of America reported.
Shmatko said petroleum companies in Russia were "ready" to deal with Iran, adding the sanctions would have no impact on bilateral ties.
New Delhi, which is examining natural gas projects with Iran, expressed frustration with the U.S. sanctions as well.
