India to open massive coking plant

NEW DELHI, May 27 (UPI) -- India's Gujarat NRE Coke Limited is planning to open a massive greenfield coke plant in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district.

Gujarat NRE Coke Limited Chairman and Managing Director Arun Kumar Jagatramka commented that his company, which produces low-ash metallurgical coke, would begin work on the project in Ativaram village "in a month or so while commercial production would take another 2 1/2 years," the Business Standard reported Thursday.

Jagatramka told the Business Standard that the facility will directly employ about 1,500 people and provide indirect work for another 6,000 workers.

The Ativaram greenfield coke plant has an initial capacity of 1 million tons and will include a 60-megawatt power plant.

As for financing Jagatramka said, "We will fund the project from internal accruals."

In addition, Gujarat NRE Coke Limited will expand its existing greenfield coke plant at Gujarat form its current production of 1.25 million tons per year capacity by an additional 1 million tons per year.
