TNK-BP touts ag-friendly practices

MOSCOW, March 30 (UPI) -- Anglo-Russian venture TNK-BP said it would designate more than 388,000 tons of fuel products to the agricultural sector in 2010 at a discounted price.

TNK-BP announced that in 2010 it plans to ship more than 348,000 tons of diesel fuel and more than 40,000 tons of gasoline to the agricultural sector. Discounts, the company said, would save the agricultural sector $13 million each year under a government-backed price mechanism.

TNK-BP Executive Vice President Anatoly Tyomkin said his company has contributed to food security in the domestic market through its support for the agricultural sector.

"This has helped improve the economic efficiency and secure the stability of agricultural works," he added.

TNK-BP is the third-largest oil company in Russian and accounts for roughly 16 percent of the total production for the country.
