LAS VEGAS, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Regional partners in Nevada announced plans to enter into a power purchase agreement for the sale of energy from the first major wind farm for the state.
NV Energy and Pattern Energy Group announced the signing of a 20-year power purchase agreement for the wind farm planned for eastern Nevada.
Michael Yackira, the president and chief executive at NV Energy, said his company is "pleased" to bring more renewable energy resources to Nevada consumers.
The facility located in Spring Valley would be the first major wind farm for Nevada.
NV Energy, a utility holding company based in Reno, said it has roughly 1,000 megawatts of geothermal, solar, biomass, hydro, waste-heat recovery and wind energy in various stages of development.
The 150-megawatt Spring Valley project is expected to produce electricity by the end of 2011.
