BURLINGTON, Vt., Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Heritage Aviation announced it installed its first wind turbine and solar power system at Burlington International Airport in Vermont.

Heritage Aviation said it installed a 100 kilowatt-hour wind turbine at its facility at the Burlington International Airport.

A photovoltaic solar electric system includes 120 solar panels situated on the rooftop of Heritage Aviation's office building. The solar facility saves the company more than $14,000 a year and produces enough power to meet the demands of 40 Vermont homes, the company said.

"We're proud to be on the leading edge of energy efficiency, corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship, in our region and in the aviation industry," said Christopher Hill, president of Heritage Aviation.

Heritage Aviation is the sole fixed base operator at Burlington International Airport. Hangars and other facilities at the airport include rainwater collection systems and one of the largest so-called green roofs in New England.
