ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- An Iranian governmental delegation is in Turkmenistan for discussions on expanding cooperation on transportation issues.

Turkmenistan.ru informatsionnoe agentsvo reported Wednesday that according to Iran's Deputy Envoy to Turkmenistan Zolfaqar Amirshahi, Iranian Deputy Road and Transportation Minister Shahriar Afandizadeh is heading a delegation of experts and officials from the Iranian Ministry of Road and Transportation for discussions pertaining to bilateral transport issues of interest.

Amirshahi's entourage is scheduled to meet with Turkmenistan's Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet for Construction Deryageldi Orazov. High-priority topics for discussion include determining ways to resolve border problems as well as transportation and customs issues along with exploring ways to expand cooperation between Iran's Terminal Office and the Turkmen government.

Amirshahi's visit precedes the imminent arrival in Turkmenistan of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who will inaugurate a new Turkmenistan-Iran natural gas pipeline designed to supplement the existing Korpezhe-Kurt Kui pipeline, which transports 8.4 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Iran.
