MALGOBEK, Russia, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Natural gas supplies to the Russian republic of Ingushetia are "normalized," taking regional consumers out of the cold, emergency officials said.

Gas to the Malgobek district in Ingushetia was disrupted when a pipeline from North Ossetia broke down. The district emergency minister said the pipeline is under repair and customers are receiving their heating gas through a reserve route, Russia's state-run news agency RIA Novosti reports.

"The situation has been normalized by now, heating has been restored and the damaged pipe is under repairs," a ministry statement read.

The cause of the pipeline disruption was not disclosed. Islamic rebels from the republic near Chechnya, however, have fought with pro-Kremlin security forces and Russian troops in recent months.

Russian gas giant Gazprom last week responded to a bomb scare on a gas pipeline to Armenia and North Caucasus.

Representatives from Gazprom described the bombs as "based on hand grenades."

Gazprom said that gas transits to Armenia had "resumed in full" by Tuesday.
