U.S., Brazil discuss biofuels

WASHINGTON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. and Brazilian energy officials met in Washington to discuss advancing a partnership in research and development of biofuels, the State Department said.

David Goldwyn, the State Department coordinator for international energy affairs, met with Ambassador Andre Amado, the Brazilian undersecretary for biofuels and technology, to advance bilateral energy cooperation.

Meetings in Washington included delegates from the Organization of American States and technical consultants who met to develop local biofuel production and consumption capacity, the State Department announced.

Bilateral discussions among the members of the U.S.-Brazil biofuels committee discussed progress made in research and development and policy advancements regarding the alternative fuel source.

The bilateral committee also reviewed ways to promote biofuels as a commodity and the best methods to advance standards and codes for biofuels.

Both sides agreed to pursue scientific exchanges on advanced biofuels and increased private sector development in both countries.
