PRINCETON, N.J., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- New Jersey company NRG Energy commenced operations at its Langford wind farm in Texas that can meet the energy demands of more than 100,000 homes.
NRG Energy announced the start up of its 150-megawatt Langford Wind Power Project. The facility uses 100 General Electric 1.5 MW turbines to generate more than 520,000 MW hours of wind energy per year.
David Crane, the president and chief executive officer at NRG, said the Texas project expands its portfolio in wind energy substantially.
"Adding this clean wind generating capacity reduces the overall greenhouse gas intensity of NRG's fleet," he added.
NRG in 2008 launched two other wind farms in Texas with a combined output of 172 MW of electrical capacity.
