SAN RAMON, Calif., Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Chevron Corp. through its Australian subsidiary announced an additional natural gas discovery in the Gorgon area off the coast of Western Australia.
George Kirkland, executive vice president for Chevron's upstream gas division, said Chevron Australia Pty Ltd. encountered natural gas at the Satyr-1 well.
"Our offshore drilling campaign in northwestern Australia continues to deliver results and is expected to provide additional natural gas supplies to underpin the Chevron-operated Gorgon natural gas project," he said.
The exploration well discovered 425 feet of net gas pay. The well is located 100 miles off the coast of Western Australia in 3,510 feet of water. It was drilled to a depth of 14,960 feet.
Chevron in October announced the discovery of 325 feet of net gas pay at its Achilles-1 exploration well. Chevron executives said the discoveries highlight the significant contribution the Gorgon project made to its portfolio.
Additional deepwater gas discoveries include finds at the Clio-2 and Kentish Knock-1 blocks located off the coast of Western Australia. The Clio-2 well discovered 375 feet of net gas pay, while Kentish Knock-1 encountered approximately 110 feet of net gas pay.
