
CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Canadian exploration company Husky Energy Inc. announced a deepwater gas discovery in the South China Sea that could yield millions of cubic feet per day.
Husky Energy announced a "significant" gas discovery in the South China Sea at Block 29/26 following the completion of drilling and testing of its LH 34-2-1 exploration well in the region.
The well tested positively for natural gas. Analysis suggests the find could deliver more than 140 million cubic feet per day.
"We are very encouraged that our geological predictions regarding the potential of this area are being validated by our drilling program," said John C.S. Lau, president and chief executive officer of Husky Energy Inc.
The LH 34-2-1 well was drilled in water depths of 3,756 feet.
Husky began exploring the South China Sea in 2002. Additional appraisals are set for 2010 and production is targeted for 2013.
