MOSCOW, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Oil flow through a section of the Druzhba pipeline in western Russia resumed Friday following the closure from an oil spill, pipeline monopoly Transneft said.
Igor Demin, a spokesman for Transneft, said repairs had concluded as expected, RIA Novosti reports.
"Repair was concluded at 11:00 a.m. Moscow time (Friday), and oil flow has been resumed," he said.
Demin announced earlier this week that hundreds of barrels of oil had spilled in the Stanovlyansky district of Lipetsk region in western Russia.
The rupture on one of the two branches of the Druzhba pipeline occurred Wednesday and Transneft had expected operations to resume by Friday. Officials are not reporting any injuries and said supplies to the second artery had been increased to avert disruptions.
More than 100 emergency services personnel reported to the scene to control the damage.
The Druzhba oil pipeline is the longest in the world at 2,500 miles. It went into operation in October 1964.
