LAWTON, Okla., Dec. 3 (UPI) -- General Electric announced it is collaborating with Horizon Wind Energy LLC to invest $117 million in a wind farm complex in Oklahoma.
GE Energy Financial Services announced the partnership with Horizon Wind Energy LLC, owned by EDP Renewables. The financing targets expansions to the Blue Canyon V wind farm in Comanche and Caddo counties in southwest Oklahoma.
Horizon plans to expand its 225-megawatt Blue Canyon V wind farm by 99 MW. The renewables company said the project could satisfy the yearly energy demands of approximately 30,000 homes and avoid more than 200,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
GE and Horizon partnered in 2008 on a 600 MW wind farm portfolio that spans four U.S. states.
GE, whose 1.5 MW wind turbines are among the most widely used in the United States, said it plans to invest $6 billion through 2010 in wind, solar, biomass, hydroelectric and geothermal power generation projects.
