
HOUSTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- A deepwater gas discovery in the Gulf of Mexico could yield as much as 75 billion cubic feet equivalent of oil and gas, operators said.
Energy Resource Technology, a subsidiary of Houston company Helix Energy Solutions, said it made a deepwater oil and gas discovery in Green Canyon Block 490 in the Jake prospect in the Gulf of Mexico.
The well encountered a 134-foot oil and gas pay. The discovery well was drilled in 3,740 feet of water to a depth of 13,504 feet.
Helix said it estimated the capacity from the discovery could reach a gross capacity of 75 billion cubic feet of product.
Meanwhile, ERT said it encountered 20 feet of oil and gas pay at its deepwater South Timbalier f145 Field in the Gulf of Mexico shelf.
The South Timbalier field is expected to begin production in December. Production from the Jake discovery is expected by 2011.
