VIENNA, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The U.N. Industrial Development Organization announced a green industrial theme at its next regular session scheduled for Dec. 7 in Vienna.
UNIDO said the focus of its 30th session in December would be opportunities for developing countries to explore environmentally friendly industries.
"This will serve to highlight the role of industry in finding solutions to emerging and global challenges faced by these countries in achieving their developmental objectives within a framework of environmental sustainability," the organization said.
UNIDO includes energy and environment as one of the main focal points of its mandate. It called on member states to have "an in-depth discussion" on energy efficiency and renewable energy for sustainable development at its next regular session.
The five-day summit includes high-ranking leaders from all member states as well as business leaders and researchers.
