Repsol eyes electric cars in Basque County

MADRID, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Spanish oil and gas company Repsol agreed with Basque officials to form a network to recharge electric vehicles in the Basque County autonomous community.

Repsol Chairman Antonio Brufau and Basque Regional Minister for Industry and Energy Bernabe Unda agreed to develop the network for electric cars.

"Repsol shares society's concerns, and for this reason we participate in the development of new technologies for transport," said Brufau.

Repsol and its Basque partners will undertake a study to examine the viability of various recharging networks and quick-change battery services for electric vehicles, the company said.

The company, one of Spain's largest fuel suppliers, said the measure was part of an examination of the market potential of electric vehicles.

The network study will determine the type of solution Repsol will develop in Basque County.

The agreement "aims to contribute to security of supply with fuels that are efficient in terms of costs and which contribute to achieving global sustainability targets," said Brufau.
