WARREN, Mich., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A U.S. Army tank division in Michigan awarded engineering company Ricardo Inc. with a contract to develop a new fuel-efficient ground vehicle.
The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center in Warren, Mich., awarded a contract with an unspecified value to Ricardo to develop a new vehicle under the Army's Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator program.
The fuel-efficiency program began in 2008 to examine ways to reduce the consumption of fuel for military vehicles.
The contract for Ricardo is for the second phase of the program that involves the design of a demonstration vehicle.
The demonstration will employ advanced technology to improve the fuel economy in light tactical wheeled vehicles.
"The FED project represents an ideal application of Ricardo's expertise in armored vehicle design and fuel efficiency improvements using our total vehicle fuel economy processes," said Louis Infante, Ricardo's vehicle product group director.
