WARSAW, Poland, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Poland's president says he is concerned U.S. foreign policy fails to take into account Polish national interests, including Central Asian energy imports.
The Polska Agencja Prasowa news agency reported Friday that President Lech Kaczynski has expressed doubts as to the realism of the U.S. President Barack Obama's foreign policy, along with concerns as to whether U.S. policy may threaten the interests of Poland and other Central European countries.
During a speech at the Metropolitan Club in New York, Kaczynski began by observing that while Poland is in a relatively good economic situation relative to other Central European countries, the current relatively low level of interaction between Washington and Warsaw means that geopolitics will continue to dominate Polish-U.S. relations for the foreseeable future.
On the issue of Polish energy imports from former Soviet Central Asian nations, Kaczynski said Poland closely follows the situation in countries east of Poland, including those in Central Asia, whose oil and gas resources and transport to Europe are coming under Russian political pressure.
