Teen solves centuries-old math problem
MOSCOW, March 24 (UPI) -- The energy sector and expansions to the Caspian gas transit system will be the focus of a meeting between top Russian and Turkmen officials Tuesday.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will host his counterpart from Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to discuss trade and economic cooperation, Itar-Tass reports.
Trade with Russia accounted for 40 percent of all the foreign trade for Turkmenistan in 2008. The Kremlin said discussions would focus on the energy sector as well as plans to construct a gas transit network in the Caspian region.
Berdimuhamedov in February said his country had set as a priority expanding its regional infrastructure to solidify its position as a major energy hub.
Turkmenistan relies on natural gas for the bulk of its exports. Estimates from 2008 put the total gas reserves for Turkmenistan at about 100 trillion cubic feet, and the country tied with Kazakhstan for the 11th largest volume in the world.
