RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- European, Asian and Middle Eastern firms tendered bids to Saudi Aramco for a deal for platform and pipeline development at its Karan gas field.
The state-owned Aramco said earlier this month it was reviewing the price of a variety of upstream oil and gas fields, including Karan and Manifa oil field in the Persian Gulf, the Middle East Business Intelligence news agency reports.
Aramco said in early 2008 it had hoped to at least double production at the Karan gas field to 1.8 billion cubic feet per day. The offshore field is estimated to hold more than 9 trillion cubic feet in natural gas reserves.
The Karan gas field is located about 60 miles north of the onshore Ghawar oil field, the largest conventional oil field in the world.
The National Petroleum Construction Co. in Abu Dhabi, Dubai's J. Ray McDermott, the Italian Snamprogetti and South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries have submitted bids for the Karan projects.
