TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Energy officials from Iran and Turkey Friday wrapped up meetings on bilateral deals for gas production ahead of a November ministerial meeting.

Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler plans a visit to Tehran in November to finalize a gas deal with top Iranian energy officials as reports emerged that both sides had finalized the details of the arrangement, the Islamic Republic News Agency said.

Turkish officials said they would invest $3.5 billion in production of the Iranian South Pars natural gas field as part of the deal.

For its part, Turkmenistan said it was examining transporting its natural gas to Europe through Iran and Turkey. Iranian energy officials, meanwhile, met with the Kremlin to discuss bilateral trade deals in the financial sectors.

The Iranian political climate is linked to the world energy market. Some Iran observers note President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad faces leadership challenges as he prepares for his second presidential term as oil prices plummet toward $60 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
