Siemens wins large turbine order

ERLANGEN, Germany, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- German company Siemens Energy announced it won a supply order from E.ON.

Siemens will supply 90 wind turbines for the Roedsand II offshore wind farm off the Danish island of Lolland in the Baltic Sea. The wind farm is expected to be one of the largest in the world with an installed capacity of 207 megawatts.

For $376.5 million, Siemens will provide 90 turbines each with a 93-meter diameter and a 2.3-megawatt capacity. The company also will complete a two-year service contract beginning after the turbines are installed in 2010.

The project's neighbor, the Roedsand I wind farm, is equipped with 72 Siemens 2.3-megawatt wind turbines and is jointly operated by E.ON and the Danish company DONG Energy. It has a current capacity of 165.6 megawatts.
