NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Despite second-guessing by others, leaders in Kenya are determined to bring home nuclear power.

Twice in less than three months Kenya's government has invited nuclear investors, but the ability of the country's leaders to maintain a nuclear energy industry continues to be questioned, the Daily Nation reported.

Still, Prime Minister Raila Odinga recently called on investors again to set up nuclear facilities in Kenya, this time while visiting London, and potential investors and experts in nuclear power also have been invited to October's National Energy Conference in Nairobi.

For its first project the government is planning a $1 billion plant to generate about 1,000 megawatts, but officials need money.

Just as other countries facing energy shortages have turned to nuclear power, Kenya see the potential the energy source holds as well.
