WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps awarded three contracts through their joint Advance Metering Infrastructure program.
American Systems, based in Chantilly, Va.; Square D, based in Palatine, Ill.; and Weston Solutions, based in San Antonio, each was awarded a firm-fixed price, indefinite-delivery contract, the U.S. Department of Defense announced. The contracts total $250 million.
The Advanced Metering Infrastructure program is part of the Navy's activities to help meet its goal of achieving energy efficiency. The U.S. military is one of the largest energy consumers in the country.
The program is managed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command and involves measuring and analyzing energy use. It allows the Navy to meet the federal mandate in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that requires all federal agencies to install metering devices.
American Systems announced it will design, install, test and maintain electricity, gas and water meters that will frequently record energy consumption. According to the contract the work must be done by 2013.
