MUSCAT, Oman, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Dolphin Energy of the United Arab Emirates announced Tuesday it could start supplying Oman with natural gas as soon as October.

"Our supply, pipeline and monitoring systems are ready to begin supplying gas as soon as Oman's new gas compression systems are tested and online," Dolphin General Manager Ibrahim Ahmed al-Ansari said in a statement.

In 2005 the Oman Oil Co. signed a Gas Sales Agreement with Dolphin to receive 200 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Dolphin will transport natural gas from Qatar through its Eastern Gas Distribution System to Oman. The 25-year GSA takes effect no later than Oct. 31.

The 2005 deal was intended to facilitate the creation of a regional natural gas grid for the countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council trade bloc consisting of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
