NEW DELHI, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- India's Maharashtra state government has approved a 10-megawatt solar power plant in the city of Nagpur.

Maharashtra is one of several Indian states facing severe power shortages. The solar power plant was fast-tracked to alleviate the shortage, The Times of India reported.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh approved the proposal from Gurgaon-based ACME Tele Power to set up a solar power plant.

ACME will build the plant on 80 acres of land near one of its existing plants. ACME already has plants in Haryana and Rajasthan states and is one of the largest solar firms in the country. The plant will receive all available state incentives.
