TEHRAN, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Iranian energy officials announced Friday a planned visit to China to discuss boosting development of the South Pars gas field.

National Iranian Oil Co. chief Seifollah Jashnsaz said he would travel to China Monday with a delegation of high-ranking officials in the Oil Ministry, the Iranian Press TV said.

Iranian officials plan to discuss natural gas sales and increased development in the South Pars gas field, the largest natural gas field in the world.

China National Offshore Oil Corp. officials are said to be negotiating a $16 billion deal with Iran for South Pars and further development of a liquefied natural gas terminal.

China also has expressed interest in joining the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline meant to link Asian markets to Iranian gas reserves.

Iraqi officials are also in negotiations with China regarding a possible oil contract.
