MOSCOW, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- There have been enough inspections into TNK-BP and the activity should cease, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said following a meeting of the consortium.
The warning from Medvedev follows a meeting between BP chief Tony Hayward and Mikhail Fridman, a Russian billionaire pushing for a greater stake in TNK-BP, The Daily Telegraph said Friday. Fridman, along with Viktor Vekselberg and Len Blavatnik, have a controlling share in the Russian AAR (Alfa Group and Access/Renova Group).
TNK-BP is a 50-50 joint venture between BP PLC and AAR.
Medvedev told Russian lawmakers Thursday that "law enforcement and state institutions should stop terrifying business," adding, "We've had enough of inspections and all sorts of raids."
The message follows a court decision saying the nomination of directors for TNK-BP Holding was illegal.
Russian interests have been embattled with their British counterparts over the direction of the firm. TNK-BP chief Robert Dudley left his office in Moscow last week, citing "sustained harassment" to continue day-to-day operations in an undisclosed European location.
