BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 29 (UPI) -- The parties to the Eastern European Nabucco gas pipeline responded positively to a planned summit on the project announced by the Hungarian premier.
Though he did not disclose a date for the meeting, Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany said he plans to host a summit on the proposed pipeline project during official visits to Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, the Trend Capital News agency reported Tuesday.
"The participants of the summit -- according to the plan -- will be all those countries who will take a hand in the project and also those countries that are potential transit and supplier countries to the Nabucco gas pipeline," said government representative Zsofia Halmai.
The proposed 2,050-mile pipeline will deliver natural gas from Azerbaijan and other regional suppliers to Europe.
For his part, Stefan Padberg of German shareholder RWE said previous meetings produced optimism among all parties.
"We have in the past seen a variety of such meetings, they were fruitful and the RWE sees the project to be on a good track and all partners in the consortium to be very committed," Padberg said.
