NEW DELHI, April 22 (UPI) -- India's state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corp., Oil India Ltd. and other private joint ventures have established 8,865 million tons of oil and gas reserves.

Junior Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha Patel told Parliament Tuesday that of the 8,865 MMT, 3,782 MMT in-place reserves are in on-land areas in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Tripura states.

Remaining in-place reserve areas are offshore, Patel said, adding the average oil and gas reserve accretion during the 10th five-year plan period was 325 MMT yearly. He said the consumption of petroleum products in the country was 120.7 MMT in 2006-07. Domestic crude oil production in the corresponding period was about 34 MMT. The dependence on imported crude by oil refining companies was 78.7 percent in 2006-07, Patel said.

He said that during the same period supply of natural gas to consumers was 96 million metric standard cubic meters per day -- 73 mmscmd from domestic sources and 23 mmscmd through liquefied natural gas imports.
