India faces energy and peak shortage

NEW DELHI, March 3 (UPI) -- India said the energy and peak shortage in the country over the past 10 months was 9 percent and 15 percent respectively.

Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told Parliament Monday there is a continuing overall shortage of power in the country. The shortage varies by state and day depending on demand and supply, he said in a statement.

He said the government is augmentation generating capacity by more than 78,000 megawatts in the current 11th five-year plan.
