NEW DELHI, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- State-run Gas Authority of India Ltd. and Coal India Ltd. have inked a pact to set up a coal-gasification project for the fertilizer sector.
GAIL said the proposed project would produce gas that would be used to make fertilizers.
"The project will use 5,000 tons of coal a day to make 7.76 million standard cubic meters a day of gas," a company statement said Friday.
The statement said the gas produced will be used to make 3,500 tons of urea per day.
"The two companies will form a joint working group to evaluate a detailed feasibility report prepared by GAIL to evaluate the viability of the project," the statement said.
GAIL has also signed an agreement with Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd. for jointly setting up a coal-gasification project at Talcher, Orissa state, the statement said.
