NEW YORK, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Many people across the United States are pledging to use less energy this New Year's Eve.
According to a poll by New York-based marketing firm Tiller LLC, about 58 percent of adults age 24 or younger plan to make a "green" New Year's resolution.
National Geographic's Green Guide offers ways to reduce your ecological footprint. Sample "green" resolutions include driving less, buying a hybrid, turning down the thermostat, installing energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, reducing water consumption, buying reusable canvas bags for shopping, and recycling.
They also suggest that eating more locally grown foods is healthy as well as more energy efficient. The food is often less treated with chemicals and doesn't have as far to travel, so it's fresher and uses less oil than products that are shipped long distances.
