SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- California-based Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. plans to acquire interest in the Ruby Pipeline.
The pipeline, a project of El Paso Corp., is a proposed 680-mile, 42-inch natural gas transmission pipeline that would start at the Opal Hub in Wyoming and end at the Malin, Ore., interconnect.
PG&E announced it entered into a letter of intent with El Paso Corp. to acquire a 25.5-percent interest.
The project is expected to cost about $2 billion and is expected to have a capacity of about 1.2 billion cubic feet per day. After obtaining necessary customer commitments, the Ruby Pipeline is expected to be in service in the first quarter of 2011.
