NEW DELHI, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Indian Railways signed a pact with state-run National Thermal Power Corp. to set up a 1,000 megawatt captive power plant in Bihar state.
Indian Railways said it signed a joint-venture agreement with the NTPC to set up a 1,000 MW captive power plant at Nabinagar, Bihar. Power generated from the plant will be used to run electric trains in the eastern and western regions, a ministry statement said.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde at Rail Bhawan in New Delhi, the statement said.
“Power from the plant will be used in running trains in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, while 10 percent of power will be earmarked for other users,” Prasad said.
