Envision unveils solar for parking lots

SAN DIEGO, June 22 (UPI) -- San Diego-based Envision Solar LLC has developed a new technology that could transform parking lots into solar power plants.

Envision is a group of architects, solar integrators, builders and engineers. Officials say the firm has developed a new way of transforming heat-absorbing parking lots into solar power plants by using a trademarked Solar Groves technology -- a concept of installing a solar array above a parking lot like a tree.

The company recently partnered with Kyocera Solar Inc. to assure quality and availability of photovoltaic modules for Envision's Solar Groves technology. The relationship brings together a principle in solar technology and the industry's only complete turnkey solar energy solution in an attractive, prefabricated package on the renewable energy market.

The first Solar Grove was installed at Kyocera's U.S. Corporate headquarters in San Diego in 2005 and has already won major design, innovation, and environmental awards.

"Architectural excellence and advanced technology appropriate for future generations were part of the Solar Grove vision from the very beginning," said Robert Noble, one of the Solar Grove creators. "Along with Kyocera, we have reached for something greater for society -- something beautiful, meaningful and of extraordinary practical value."
