Talisman wins block licenses in North Sea

CALGARY, Alberta, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Talisman Energy's British unit won 10 blocks in a licensing round in the North Sea.

The Canadian energy group said the new licenses will boost its operations in the central North Sea and advance its frontier acreage position in the Atlantic margin region.

"We see a lot of running room in the North Sea ... these awards provide Talisman with a nice mixture of new, near field exploration targets within subsea tie-back distance in the U.K., a Norwegian block with significant shallow water natural gas potential, as well as higher risk, higher reward frontier acreage west of Shetlands," said Talisman's Chief Executive Jim Buckee.
