CNPC touts record

BEIJING, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- China National Petroleum Corp. said Wednesday its oil and gas operations extended to 25 countries and 65 projects.

The Xinhua news agency reported that CNPC's annual crude output overseas exceeded 50 million tons. Natural gas output has more than 5 billion cubic meters annually.

The company said the growth of its overseas oil and gas reserves had propelled it past companies such as Chevron and France's Total, making CNPC the world's seventh-largest oil firm, according to rankings complied by the Petroleum Intelligence Weekly.

The ranking was based on factors such as oil and gas reserves, oil and gas output and sales volume, Xinhua said.
