ABILENE, Texas, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- A Texas law firm announced a courtroom victory for the Horse Hollow wind farm being sued for creating a private nuisance.
Lynn Tillotson and Pinker, LLP served as defense counsel for the Florida-based company, FPL Energy, during the two-week trial.
"This is a complete victory for wind energy, and for FPLE as a leader in the renewable energy field," said Trey Cox, partner at Lynn Tillotson and co-lead counsel. "FPLE continues its pledge to be a good partner to Taylor and Nolan counties while working to provide efficient energy solutions in Texas and the rest of the country."
The Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center comprises 421 turbines and takes up approximately 47,000 acres. It's the largest wind farm in the world with a capacity of 735 megawatts.
The plaintiffs' attorneys argued that the turbines generated too much noise and should be considered a private nuisance but the jury decided that was not the case and the session was ruled in favor of FPLE.
Horse Hollow has more than $1 billion invested in it by FPLE; the outcome of the suit had potential for a large financial impact as well as impact on future projects and construction.
