NEW DELHI, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- India's private major Lanco Infra has urged the Coal and Power Ministries to provide long-term coal linkages for its super-thermal power project.
The company has two power projects of 1,000 megawatts each in Jharkhand and Hirakud states.
The Hyderabad-based company has in a letter to the ministries said that in the first phase of the project, it proposes implementing 1,000 MW and a long-term allocation of coal would provide an impetus to ensure commissioning of the power plant during the 11th five-year plan that begins next year.
"We have made substantial progress in the project development process such as application for land and allocation of water and detailed environmental study of the sites ... and assure you that we shall commission the project well within the stipulated schedule," the company said.
A senior Coal Ministry official said the ministry has already written to the Power Ministry that it was inclined to give long-term linkages to power companies.
He said the Power Ministry has from time to time communicated its approach and recommendations for allocation of coal linkages or coal blocks to power utilities.
"Keeping in view the recent developments and experience gained, this has been reviewed and comprehensive guidelines for providing linkages and allotment of captive coal blocks have been approved," said a Coal Ministry note as quoted by The Hindustan Times newspaper Monday.
