ISTANBUL, Turkey, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Iran said Friday it is ready to supply Turkey with gas if Ankara needs increased supplies.
"We will provide gas for Turkey if Turkey demands," Ali Reza Attar, Iranian deputy foreign minister for economic affairs, told the World Economic Forum in Istanbul.
The comments were reported by the Anatolia news agency.
"Iran is a producer and is ready to provide energy for markets," he said. "Iran is working for energy safety."
Iran's role as a reliable supplier has been questioned by Western nations that say Tehran's nuclear program and what is widely regarded as its concealment of its nuclear program show that the Islamic republic cannot be trusted.
Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful and points out that it is among the top energy suppliers.
