Israel monitors infrastructures during war

JERUSALEM, July 17 (UPI) -- The Israeli Ministry of National Infrastructures established Monday a "situation room" to ensure northern residents have access to electricity and water.

"The situation room (will) follow developments and be in constant contact with infrastructure facilities in the north," the ministry said in a statement.

The terrorist group Hezbollah has been firing rockets on towns and cities in northern Israel since Wednesday morning, after members of the group crossed the border to kidnap two Israeli Defense Force soldiers and killed eight others.

Israel continues to respond with air strikes against Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, the coastal area and Beirut.

The Israel Air Force has also bombed Lebanese infrastructure targets such as the international airport, several ports and the main Beirut-Damascus road, saying the infrastructures serve as channels for Syria and Iran to funnel weapons to Hezbollah.

Israel's Minister of National Infrastructures, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, is scheduled on Tuesday to visit several towns hit by rockets. Ben-Eliezer will bring the ministry's director-general as well as officials from the Israel Electric Corp., the national water company, Mekorot and sewage treatment facilities, according to the ministry statement.
